Eligibility
People who because of age, disability or illness:
- are unable to prepare an adequate meal for themselves
- have no one to prepare meals for them
- have inadequate cooking facilities
- have health and social needs that are defined by  doctors, hospital, or health and social services

Benefit to clients
In addition to the nutritional benefits of  this service, clients benefit by:
- social contacts for seniors and handicapped people who are often lonely and living alone
- the security of knowing that friendly volunteers check on their well-being on delivery days and respond quickly if an emergency arises
- maintaining their independence in their own home
- not having to worry about meal preparation after a hospital stay, meals can be available for short term post-hospital stay

How to become a Meals on Wheels recipient?
The referral form should be filled out and faxed or mailed to the Burnaby Meals on Wheels office.  Registration may also be done by phone.  This information is important in establishing the correct meal program and delivery process for new clients.  The referral form can be completed personally, by a family member, case manager or doctor.  Once this information is obtained, service can start within four business days.
